Back in 2021, musical entertainer Nick Golden commissioned me to draw him as a Bud Flanagan tribute act. I did a digital sketch, which is easy to reproduce and place within other graphics - in this case, he specifically wanted it for a new banner. Then last week he got back in touch, asking for an updated drawing. I've placed the two side by side here.
Both are drawn on a Surface tablet. There are several layers in each drawing. I normally start with a rough layout on the bottom layer, which I then discard after drawing a black outline. The pen tool is pressure sensitive, and so it's easy do expressive drawing with varying line thicknesses. Beneath that are the colour block and shading layers (modified with airbrushing, blurring etc).
